Open Access publishing agreement: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE)

Authors affiliated with the University of Vienna can publish Open Access without any additional charges in approximately 180 IEEE journals under an Open Access publishing agreement. Please find the agreement details here:

Funding requirements
  • The (submitting) "corresponding author"1) of the article is affiliated2) with the University of Vienna on the date of acceptance.
  • The "corresponding author" states "University of Vienna" as their affiliation or as one of their affiliations in the article.
  • Funding is available for peer reviewed articles.
  • The following applies to articles resulting from EU projects: funding can currently be provided by the University of Vienna (sufficient remaining articles available).

FWF projects: OA funding processed by UniVie. Additional requirements:

  • Required licence: CC BY
  • The following passage must be included in all publications at submission:
    This research was funded in whole or in part by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [grant DOI]. For open access purposes, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright license to any author accepted manuscript version arising from this submission.
Funding is only provided for Open Access (Article Processing Charges, APCs), not for any additional fees (e.g. colour charges, submission fees, overlength page charges).

No invoicing, OA costs fully covered by publishing agreement.
Author workflow

Articles have to be submitted using the institutional e-mail address (@univie.ac.at or @unet.univie.ac.at) so the publisher can recognise eligible authors and provide them with instructions to make their article available Open Access. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the University of Vienna will be checked by the Open Access Office.

Nur "corresponding authors" sind förderberechtigt. "Corresponding author" ist jene Person, die gegenüber dem Verlag die offizielle Ansprechperson bezüglich des eingereichten Beitrags ist und als solche in der Publikation selbst ausgewiesen ist. Nicht förderberechtigt sind Co-Autor*innen, Erst- oder Letztautor*innen, die nicht gleichzeitig corresponding author sind. Das "corresponding author"-Prinzip wird als Förderkriterium international verwendet, um bei Artikeln mit mehreren Autor*innen aus unterschiedlichen Einrichtungen ein klares Entscheidungskriterium zu haben, welche Institution für die Kosten aufkommt. Damit wird auch zu einer fairen Kostenverteilung beigetragen.
