Open Access publishing agreement: Wiley

Authors affiliated with the University of Vienna can publish Open Access without any additional charges in approximately 1,900 Wiley journals under an Open Access publishing agreement. Please find the agreement details here:

Articles in subscription journals with Open Access option and Gold journals (fully open access; only for submissions from January 1, 2024): Eligible Subscription Journals (PDF)

Funding requirements
  • The "corresponding author"1) of the article is affiliated2) with the University of Vienna on the date of acceptance.
  • The "corresponding author" states "University of Vienna" as their affiliation or as one of their affiliations in the article.
  • Article types covered: Case Report, Clinical Message, Commentary, Consensus, Drug Focus, History, Meta Analysis, Original Article, Rapid Publication, Review Article, Technical Note, Tutorial. Book reviews are always excluded from funding.
  • The following applies to articles resulting from EU projects: funding can be provided by the University of Vienna (sufficient articles available).

FWF projects: OA funding processed by UniVie. Additional requirements:

  • Required licence: CC BY
  • The following passage must be included in all publications at submission:
    This research was funded in whole or in part by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [grant DOI]. For open access purposes, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright license to any author accepted manuscript version arising from this submission.
Funding is only provided for Open Access (Article Processing Charges, APCs), not for any additional fees such as e.g. colour charges, submission fees (submission fees are currently collected at 30 journals).
Invoicing
No invoicing, OA costs fully covered by publishing agreement.
Author workflow

After the submission has been accepted, authors have to state "University of Vienna" as their affiliation and choose the "OnlineOpen" option in Wiley's author interface. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the University of Vienna will be checked by the Open Access Office.

Only "corresponding authors" are eligible for funding. "Corresponding author" is the person the publisher is in contact with concerning the article and who is named as such in the publication itself. Co-authors, first authors or last authors are not eligible for funding unless they are also corresponding authors. The "corresponding author" principle is used internationally to determine which institution covers the charges in case an article is written by authors of different institutional backgrounds. It facilitates fair distribution of costs.
